You may have heard that Google was ordered to pay a patent troll 1.36% of their AdWords revenue between 2012 to 2016. That comes out to about $1 billion or so.

Greg Sterling at Search Engine Land wrote that Google will appeal, of course.

The company awarded the money is named Vringo, a subsidiary of I/P engine, based in New York. Google was already ordered to pay $15.8 million in 2012 but Vringo is looking for ongoing royalties.
