Google News Creates Standout Tag To Display "Featured"

Google News StandoutGoogle News announced a new way for publishers to really make their news “standout” by using a new “standout” tag.

Using the new “standout” tag will give your article the ability to show up in Google news with the label “Featured” near the content. Google said, “If you put the tag in the HTML header of one of your articles, Google News may show the article with a ‘Featured’ label on the Google News homepage and News Search results.”

Here is how the tag looks:

<link rel=”standout” href=”http://www.example.com/scoop_article_100.html”/>

Note, you would put this in the head element of the page source code.

But you cannot use it for every story, Google gives you up to seven times per week. Google added that if you do use it more, they may find the tags “are less recognized, or ignored altogether.”

This tag is in addition to the trust me tag which was from earlier.
