Google’s Aygul Zagidullina announced on Google+ that they have rebranded, renamed, the Google City Experts as Google Local Guides.

I suspect because Google wants to have more local experts not just in major cities but also in smaller locales?

Aygul said:

With that comes new social profiles and landing pages to promote the Local Guides, volunteers who help improve Google’s local data by writing local reviews on Google local pages.
