As I reported yesterday at Search Engine Land via @chrisains, Google is now showing a cookie notice on the 27 localized versions of Google in the European Union. If you are in the UK, Germany, France or other 27 member states of the EU, Google will now show a notification that you need to allow Google to place cookies on your computer to use Google search.
The notification shows (still rolling out) on the Google home page, on the YouTube home page and on search results. Here is how it looks like when on the search results (yes, really in your face and annoying):
Why did Google do this? Google didn’t mention the EU cookie law but said:
Of course, major UK web sites have been doing this for years or months but Google just adopted it now.
Try it yourself by searching for [anything] on Google UK.
The countries this will show on are the 27 member states of the EU.
