Google To Rename Google App Indexing To Firebase App Indexing

Mobile5 Google 640

Today is Google I/O and I am spotting a some changes to the Google docs that have not yet been announced. It seems Google has renamed it’s Google App Indexing to Firebase App Indexing. Firebase is a company Google acquired in October 2014 that makes products for software developers building mobile or web applications. You can read about them at firebase.com.

If you go to developers.google.com/search, which I found from the rich cards link in the Google Search Console, it shows a section that reads:

Here is a screen shot:

Google Firebase App Indexing

The learn more link 404s for me and goes to https://firebase.google.com/docs/app-indexing/ but that should change soon. If you search for [firebase app indexing] you will find this documentation at firebase.com.

I have not yet seen if there are functional changes that come along with this or just a naming change.

Forum discussion at Google+.

Update: Google removed all the references to Firebase but the screen shots above show I saw them.

Update 2: After I/O Google officially announced it and put the name back to Firebase app indexing.
