For months, Google has been promising us a solution for them to run Penguin faster so webmasters and SEOs would not have to wait over a year for another refresh.

I, like many of you, were under the impression that the next release would be that solution. But when Penguin 3.0 rolled out, we got very little information around the update and nothing about if it is a revision to the algorithm, just a refresh of the data or if it made the algorithm run faster.

It seems like this Penguin 3.0 doesn’t have what it takes to make the algorithm run faster.

John Mueller of Google spoke in a Google+ at 61 minutes and 45 seconds into the hangout about speed of Penguin. He said:

This answer, to me, reads, the latest Penguin refresh is indeed not going to be run faster than previous ones. It means they are still working on it but maybe decided it is not as important as they once thought it was.
