There is an excellent thread at WebmasterWorld just getting started on the topic of acquiring one way links.

Philip Terry, who started the thread, wanted to come up with a list of “bargaining chips” he can use to successfully acquire one way links from sites when he asks for links. He said:

Here are some of those suggestions from the thread:

I give you a referral if you give me a link…
I give you exclusivity in an area for the referrals if you give me a link…
I place your number and company name on my directory if you give me a link…
Your site is broken and here is how to fix it…
I will write an article for you on the subject of your choice if you give me a link…
I’m running a competition for people in your niche – would you mind advertising it…
