Philae Google Logo For First Robotic Landing On Comet Nucleus

Google Philae Doodle

Hours ago, Google posted a Google Doodle for the Philae spacecraft, the robotic European Space Agency lander that accompanied the Rosetta spacecraft and touched down today using a controlled mechanism.

It landed on comet Nucleus and will be responsible for capturing images from a comet’s surface and make the first in situ analysis to determine the comet’s composition.

This process started back in February 16, 2004 – so it is a long time coming. Here is the depiction of the landing:

It touched down at 15:08 GMT, which is 10:08 AM EDT.
