Daily Search Forum Recap: May 1, 2019

Here is a recap of what happened in the search forums today, through the eyes of the Search Engine Roundtable and other search forums on the web.

Search Engine Roundtable Stories:

Google: We Don’t Provide SEO Support Based On Business Relationships
One of the biggest complaints I see from newbies in SEO is that it is impossible to call someone at Google and get an answer on why their rankings are not doing well in search. You and I know, Google doesn’t do one on one support but it is hard for people outside of our industry to understand.

Google Search Console Lost Data From April 9 to April 25th
Remember those Google Search Console bugs that we thought was related to the indexing issue? Google said it was resolved mostly with the exception of the backlink report, which should be resolved soon. Well, resolved means that the data was completely lost for all reports excluding the performance report and filled with data from April 26th instead.

Eric Schmidt To Step Down As Google Board After 18 Years
Google/Alphabet announced last night that Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO and long time board member of 18-years, is stepping down from his role on the board. He will continue as a “technical advisor” to the company but it seems he is moving on to “helping the next generation of talent to serve,” as he put it.

Now Google Search Console Manual Actions Are Buggy
Just when you thought the bugs were over, we have a new batch of them within Google Search Console. This one is specific to the manual actions viewer. Google’s John Mueller confirmed this morning after numerous reports starting yesterday afternoon that there is something wrong with the manual action viewer.

Ruth Asawa Google Wire Sculpture Doodle
Today is Asian-American Pacific Islander month and to commemorate the kick off the month, Google has a Doodle featuring Ruth Asawa’s wire sculpture work. The Doodle is a wire sculpture of the Google logo. Ruth Asawa was an American sculptor whose parents were immigrants from Japan.

Queen Of England Cardboard Cutout At Google
I am not sure why there is a cardboard cutout of the Queen of England at Google’s main offices in Mountain View, California – but there is. And here is someone named Jenny Sharaf posing with it.

I realize it’s almost philosophical, but it’s not thin content if we can’t see anything; it’s just a URL. Also, if there are a lot of links pointing to robotted URLs (resulting in them being indexed or even ranking), that seems, John Mueller on Twitter
