Tom Wilkinson, 'The Full Monty' actor, dead at 75

Tom Wilkinson, best known for his role in “The Full Monty,” has died. He was 75.

“It is with great sadness that the family of Tom Wilkinson announce that he died suddenly at home on December 30th. His wife and family were with him. The family asks for privacy at this time,” his reps confirmed to Fox News Digital.

The cause of death has not been revealed.

The famed English actor is remembered for playing former steel mill foreman Gerald Cooper in the 1997 comedy “The Full Monty,” about a group of unemployed steelworkers who formed an unlikely male stripping act.

English actor Tom Wilkinson has died at the age of 75, his family confirmed with Fox News Digital on Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023.

He recently starred in the Disney+ streaming series “The Full Monty,” as he reprised his role as Cooper.

Wilkinson was born in Leeds and started his acting career at the age of 18.

His other film credits include the 1998 film “Shakespeare in Love,” Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins” in 2005, the 2011 thriller “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “Valkyrie.”

The actor was recognized for his services to drama in 2005 when he was appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire.

He was nominated Best Actor Academy Award for his work in the 2001 family drama “In The Bedroom” and in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in “Michael Clayton,” a 2007 film that starred George Clooney.

Wilkinson’s television credits include 1995’s “Sense and Sensibility” and 2013’s “Belle.” He additionally played criminal masterminds in movies like “Rush Hour” opposite Jackie Chan in 1998, or Guy Ritchie’s “RocknRolla” in 2008.

He won an Emmy for his role as Benjamin Franklin in 2008. Wilkinson also portrayed President Lyndon B. Johnson in 2014’s “Selma,” and was featured in “The Grand Budapest Hotel” and “Girl with a Pearl Earring.”

Wilkinson is survived by his wife, actress Diana Hardcastle, and their two daughters Alice and Mollie.
