itunes-subscribe-video.png Busy week in search, a lot of news coming out of SMX West, I just landed a couple hours ago – so excuse the tired look. Google’s Matt Cutts announced they are working on the next generation Panda algorithm that intends on softening it for small businesses. Google launched their cleaner search results design. Google promised to make some changes to not provided. Google’s Amit Singhal said the knowledge graph is Google’s swiss army knife but searchers still need our content, we are the corkscrews. Google is caught pushing down branded queries for themselves. Google is going to slap Italian and Spanish link networks. Google’s Matt Cutts said it can be “quite difficult” to recover from some penalties. Google may look at your other sites when you get a manual action. Google’s Cutts also said they do use a form of author rank, specifically with in-depth articles. If Matt Cutts had his way, he would give a ranking boost to sites that enable SSL. Google is not going to launch those huge banner ads. Google stopped doing those monthly or so search quality highlights because we are bored of them. Google now tries to source the tour dates from the artists web sites, if they use the markup. Yandex officially dropped links from part of their algorithm. Yelp and Yahoo partner, where Yelp powers some of Yahoo’s local search results. That was this week in search at the Search Engine Roundtable.
