In this week’s video, I catch up on the past two weeks of search news. First, Panda 4.1 was released on the first day of Rosh Hashanah, it aimed to help smaller/medium sized web sites but it may have hurt this site badly. Google may be releasing Penguin 3.0 next week, I cover that in detail. Bing may have done an update and reversed it later. Google reportedly slapped private blog networks for thin content and Matt Cutts enjoyed it. Google says SEO agencies in Poland are often abusing their SEO clients. I shared my data on migrating to HTTPS for RustyBrick. Bugger got slammed when migrating but it may have been a Google bug. Bing mocked Google for using HTTPS as a ranking signal. GoogleBot looks at connection time and HTTP server status codes for knowing when to stop crawl a web site. Google says rich snippets are not for your home page. Google says migrating to HTTPS isn’t a magic SEO bullet. Google is now showing mobile friendly icons in the mobile search results. Moz showed how Google is using more direct answers in the search results. DuckDuckGo was blocked by China. Yahoo Directory is shutting down soon. Google got free beverages in exchange for ranking help. Finally, it was Google’s 16th birthday a week ago! That was the past two weeks in search at the Search Engine Roundtable.
